The King Abdullah Mosque is definitely one of the gems in Amman. Its distinctive blue dome, beautifully decorated with Quranic inscriptions stands out immediately. The mosque was completed in 1989 as a memorial by the late King Hussain to his grandfather. It can host up to 7000 worshippers inside and a further 3000 in the courtyard. It also includes a small women’s section for around 500 worshippers. The Islamic museum inside the mosque contains a small collection of photographs and personal effects of King Abdullah I and provides an insight into the history of the Royal Family. The King Abdullah Mosque is the only mosque to openly welcome non-Muslim visitors.
