Amman Citadel And The Archaeological Museum

The Citadel is one of the best-known attractions in Amman. Located on the highest hill of Amman (Jabal Al Qala’a), the beautiful remains of the Roman Temple of Hercules can be seen from everywhere and add to the unique landscape of the city.

The Citadel has had a long history of occupation by many great civilisations which makes it an interesting and important attraction. There is a lot to see at the Citadel. The most striking sights of the Citadel are the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace, the Archaeological Museum, and a Byzantine Church.

The Temple of Hercules was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 161-80). Looking at its hand-carved remains, one can only imagine the beauty and vastness of the Temple in its glory days.
